An Illustrated Essay

I just started a new masters program and my first essay (for an accelerated summer course) was on the nature of memory. In order to give a presentation on my paper in class, I lit on the idea of creating a visual aid - partly because the question I wanted to address reminded me of an image of a tree that I had seen on Pinterest once, and as I was trying to find an illustration I realized that it was really more of a singular occurrence (so I might not be able to simply refer to common experience and hope people had encountered the phenomena I was describing). My first thought was that I could draw an image on the white board, but I dismissed that idea as being somewhat impractical for a number of reasons. Instead, I spent a few hours not reading or even getting a solid night's sleep (as, perhaps, I ought to have been doing) but sketching this image of a tree which 'remembers' a wall that has since fallen down.
