Figure Drawing
I was first introduced to figure drawing during my high school Drawing 1 class and I took an immediate liking to this subject matter. I was re-introduced to this style in my undergraduate Drawing 2 class - we focused largely on figure drawings and portraits and had models on a regular basis. The selection here includes most of my developed pieces as well as a few one-shots and gestures. I have had some trouble managing to practice outside of classes, though I have done some gestures of my family members when I got particularly bored during the pandemic. Nevertheless, I'm generally more comfortable with figures than with faces.

State Fair Gestures
Below are some moderately developed gesture drawings I did at the state fair. I was really out of practice so most of my attempts were quickly scrapped - aside of course for the challenges of finding someone who would remain reasonably stationary and visible amid a constantly moving crowd. The coloring technique was something I learned from a peer in my Senior Seminar class in college - sketching in a less visible color and then adding progressive layers of detail in more visible colors. I thought the black paper might make for an interesting result, though it proved rather difficult to photograph so I cannot share any of the sketches which did not receive highlights.
