Chimeras

I started drawing chimeras at some point in the middle of high school and have kept at it ever since. Generally, it's just a fun way to get the creative juices flowing, to draw something without having a fully developed idea going into it. As I'm sure you can tell, there are certain elements that I return to on a regular basis, and some that are a bit more unique. I've also tried to incorporate some non-biological elements in some creatures for a bit more variety - I think the first and perhaps most obvious of those was the fork, but a couple of the other creatures here have some sort of prosthetic or otherwise non-organic element. They are at different levels of development and vary in their levels of eccentricity and how many elements they combine. I have included several of the initial creature sketches and anatomical thumbnails for the X-Luminate series (featured at the bottom of the page), as well as some that did not make the final cut.

X-Luminate

Science and imagination collide in these whimsical anatomical sketches of imaginary creatures. Through color and intricate design, emphasis is drawn to a beauty that rests inside each and every one of us, Beauty can be found in the simplest things, from the amazing inner workings of our bodies to the doodle-like patterns that give rise to greater levels of intricacy. These works really are less than perfect, more than flesh and bone. All works in this series are 16x19 or 19x16. (2016-2017)
